A parent whose daughter had been admitted to DU but could not get a hostel. She had to withdraw the admission. It’s heartbreaking but it raises a question – how many students actually get a hostel in their first year at DU? The shortage of hostels is a big issue as DU’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh recently pointed out. He said efforts are being made to address this issue, including plans to regulate the skyrocketing rents of private accommodations around the university. But is that enough to ensure that students from other cities can study at DU?

Another question that came up in the comments was about the third list. Many students were worried that they would get another chance to upgrade. We had already answered this in our previous video but some students missed that. Long videos cover multiple topics not just the one you are interested in. So, will there be a third list? Yes, there will be. We confirmed this with Professor Vikas Gupta, the Registrar of DU who told us that a third list is coming and an announcement will be made soon.

For those who didn’t get an upgrade in the second list, there is still hope. If you were allotted a seat on the first list, completed all formalities, and then got upgraded, you are in a good position. But remember the upgrade process is only for courses that were higher on your preference list. But where is the cut-off of preference? Should you continue to upgrade or settle for the current seat? It’s a decision you have to take carefully considering the risk of losing a better option later.

There will be a Third Round in DU CSAS: DU Confirmed

DU’s first-year, first semester classes start on August 29th and there’s been a lot of fuss about being there for the first day of college. But what if you can’t make it on the first day? Is it a big deal? While being there on the first day is important, missing it due to circumstances beyond your control won’t be the end of the world. University officials know that students face challenges in getting accommodations and settling into a new city. But don’t take this as an excuse to delay too much, attendance is key and some students have faced serious consequences for short attendance in the past.

The upgrade process can sometimes throw up surprises. For example, one student was allotted B.Com. (Hons) at Dyal Singh College in the first round but was upgraded to B.Com. Program at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College in the second round. This student was upset as he never wanted to study B.Com. Program. Unfortunately, once an upgrade is accepted, there’s no option to go back to the previous seat. The student now faces a tough choice: either accept the course he didn’t want or exit the system altogether.

The experience of students over the past two years at DU has shown that preferences matter. Some students made mistakes in filling out their preference sheets and ended up with undesirable results. For example, a science student with decent score and from a reserved category couldn’t get a seat in the course he wanted because he included arts courses with high cut-offs in his preference list. This is why you need to be careful while filling out your preference sheet.

Another big issue is the high fees of off-campus colleges which is becoming a big burden for parents. The fees of these colleges, especially those offering vocational courses, are much higher than North Campus colleges. This financial burden raises the question of whether there will be any regulation to check these exorbitant fees.

So, when will be the third round? With the second round ending by August 30th, the third round should be announced soon after. University sources say the list will be out after the Janmashtami break and the first week of September is the probable timeline. This round will also include ECA and sports category lists which will be a big relief for those who are still hoping to get a seat.
