Third Round of Admissions Creates Anxiety
After the release of the third round of seat allocation at Delhi University (DU), students have been feeling anxious regarding their admissions. While admissions under the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) are still open, a special cut-off list is now set to be released to accommodate more students.
Special Cut-Off: Eligibility and Purpose
Professor Geeta Bhatt, Director of NCWEB, explained the rationale behind this special cut-off during an interview. “The special cut-off will be open for two days, allowing applicants to apply,” she stated. This cut-off is specifically designed for students who were eligible under the first, second, or third cut-offs but could not secure admission for various reasons, such as not being able to access the online portal or failing to apply within the stipulated time.

What Makes This Special Cut-Off Different?
The special cut-off will have the same eligibility criteria as the previous three rounds, but it will be open only to those applicants who were eligible but did not take admission. Seats will be allocated based on availability at various DU centers. For categories where seats are still open, the eligibility percentage will be displayed. In contrast, centers where seats are already filled will be marked as “closed.”
Cut-Off Status and Seat Availability
Professor Bhatt elaborated on the current status of admissions across various categories and centers:
- General Category (UR): Seats are mostly filled at 13 centers, especially at popular colleges in the North Campus like Miranda House and Hansraj College.
- Reserved Categories: While some seats in the SC (Scheduled Castes) category are still open, many have been filled.
- Popular Courses: Courses like B.A. (Program) with combinations such as History and Political Science remain in high demand. For instance, at Aryabhatta College, the cut-off for the General category is 58%, while it is 69% at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College.
Application Process and Timeframe
Eligible students who missed their chance in the earlier rounds can apply online for the special cut-off within the two-day window. After that, colleges will have a day to evaluate the applications to ensure no candidate has already secured admission elsewhere.

Can Students Apply to Multiple Centers?
Yes, students can apply to multiple centers where their eligibility matches the cut-off criteria. However, the admission will only be confirmed once the fee is paid at one chosen center
Fourth Cut-Off Schedule and Future Plans
The university plans to release the fourth cut-off list on September 19, which will offer another opportunity for students if seats remain available. After the special category process concludes, a slight reduction in percentage is expected for the remaining seats.
Popularity of B.A. Programs Over B.Com
Admissions under NCWEB have seen a higher interest in B.A. programs compared to B.Com programs. Although some centers have witnessed good admissions in B.Com, most of the seats remain open, particularly in the General category.
Start of Classes for First Semester Students
Classes for first-semester students are scheduled to begin soon, as per the university’s timetable.
Conclusion
The special cut-off is a crucial opportunity for those students who missed out on earlier rounds due to unforeseen circumstances. All eligible candidates are encouraged to check their status on the NCWEB or DU website and apply accordingly.
