The Complaint was filed after college principal Arun Kumar Atree’s letter to the SOL chairperson and The Delhi Police. The letter, dated Monday, highlighted an “incident of trespassing, threatening, and willful damage” to the college’s classroom, resulting in damages worth approximately Rs 2.5 lakh.

Principal Atree’s letter: “On 30.06.2024 five SOL students entered C-3 classroom without permission and damaged our interactive panel in the said classroom. This has disrupted our academic activities and caused financial loss and fear among the staff members.”

The Letter included photographs of the damaged property, CCTV footage, and other documents.

The incident seems to be linked to an earlier incident on June 26 when a first-year SOL student of the BA Pass course was caught cheating with his mobile phone during an exam at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. Principal Atree told The Indian Express, “The accused had come to our college to take an exam on June 26 and was caught cheating with his mobile. He came back to our college on June 30 and destroyed our smart classroom panel.”

Atree also said they had tried to contact the student: “We have filed a complaint with SOL and Delhi Police. We have tried to contact the student but he is absconding and his phone is off.”

Atree also said the student had threatened the college staff not to report the incident to the authorities.

SOL chairperson Payal Mago confirmed receipt of the complaint and said it has been forwarded to the college’s disciplinary committee. “We have taken a look at it and have forwarded it to our college’s disciplinary committee, which will speak to the student and ask him why he/she caused this damage and produce a report in a maximum of 15 days,” Mago said.

A complaint has also been filed at Malviya Nagar Police Station under relevant sections.

This has raised questions about student behavior and university campus security. The authorities will look into it and the college’s disciplinary committee and police will take action against the students.
